School Photo Day Prep Guide

If you are here that means your beautiful child has been booked in for some school photos with me. I can not wait to meet them and document who they are! But before we get too far ahead of ourselves I want to make sure you and your child feel confident and ready for your session.

Booking and Photos

By now you should have already selected your package, paid your sitting fee, and completed all the required contracts, Thank you so much! If you haven’t yet please do so asap.

(please note, the model release contract is not mandatory and if you do not sign it I will not post any of the images from your session online)

Once the session is finished photos will take approximately 3 weeks to arrive in your inbox with your own private gallery for your child. Please make sure the email you registered with is the correct email address for that link to be sent to as that is the email address I will be sending your gallery to.

What to Wear

Picking your child’s outfit can be the hardest part of your child’s school photos, so I have come up with a few tips for you along the way.

  • Choose clothes that have a solid colour or a soft pattern

  • Avoid big logos, distracting prints, and characters (these types of clothes pull the focus away from your child)

  • Stay away from wearing white or black. Since these photos are done in front of a white or black backdrop these colours will cause your child to blend in.

  • Please make sure your child is ready to go for their time slot (hair styled, food and dirt washed off their faces, ect.) as images will reflect how your child looks while infant of my camera.

How to prepare your child

Sometimes kids can feel nervous in front of a camera, this is normal, however we want to try mitigate this by preparing them they best we can before they get in front of me.

  • let them know that these photos are meant to be fun and casual, and that you will be near by to encourage them as well.

  • Tell them to be themselves! They can goof off, laugh, pull a funny face (don’t worry though I will make sure to get some nice smiles too.

  • If your child has a favourite toy that helps them feel comfortable, they are more than welcome to bring it along. Things that help them relax will make them that much more comfortable infant of the camera.
